Research Interests
Evolution of sex and sex-determining mechanisms are my main research interests. Briefly, in this project we investigate explanations for the observed excess of gene duplication movement occurring from the X chromosome to ectopic autossome regions. Using Drosophila model and employing a bioinformatics approach, our aim is to test the natural selection hypothesis suggested by observations already present in literature that such retrogenes exhibit male-biased expression pattern (testis), which is matched by the underrepresentation of male-biased genes on the X chromosome (demasculinization).
